Media Temple

I had been a Media Temple customer for more than a decade when I took the job as Creative and UX Director there. It was such an honor to work at this company that was loved by everyone in the design community and I learned so much from both Sara Hicks (on how to be a good manager) and Damian Selfors (on how to build great brands). While there, I led a rebrand of the company while building an 18 person team. The team was responsible for visual design, content, video, web (both marketing and admin sites), and event design. I spent more than four years collaborating with teams across the company and a wide selection of global artists and agencies. Our rebrand, for better or worse, was not only an instrumental part of Go Daddy’s event acquisition of the company, but it also helped cement us as the premium brand in the space. We shifted from a commodity platform to a reliable partner who “hosted great ideas.” Although today’s (mt) looks different than what we created, I still am very proud of the work we did. I have included some selections below.

Thank you to my amazing team who produced all this work: Ryan Morgan, Maggie Tielker, Justin Young, Ara Abcarians, Ian Moersen, Michael Murray, Ignacio Chavez, Dylan Kessler, Erik Reinert, Justin Anderson, Levi Obery, and a collection of agency partners including Character, Ludlow Kingsley, and DKNG.

Our award-winning brand video, “Rise & Shine”, is one my favorite things our team created. At the core of this company were hundreds of creative people who were ready to help 24/7/365 to get our customers ideas online.

User Experience

Hundreds of thousands of people use the Media Temple Account Center to manage their website, buy domain, and create new site. Our team re-imagined the WordPress onboarding process which included the user needing to wait for 30-45 seconds for their site to be provisioned. As part of our redesign user experienced, we surprised users with a homemade Space Invaders style game which they could play while waiting for their site to be built. We saw engagement go up by over 80% and managed to add a much-talked about brand touchpoint to what can be a rather dull experience.

Media Temple Events

One of the things that made customers fall in love with Media Temple were our legendary events. They were such an important part of our brand and Lily Crick was masterful at putting these together. I’ve included two recaps below.

Our second Table Tennis Invitational - an event I conceptualized and helped bring to life.
